Using PlayStation 4 Controllers on a PlayStation 5 Console
If you own a PlayStation 5 (PS5) console and have a PlayStation 4 (PS4) controller, you might be wondering if you can use it to play games. Here’s what you need to know:
PS4 Games
The PS4 controller (DualShock 4) is fully compatible with PS4 games played on the PS5. If you’re playing a PS4 game installed on your PS5 console, you can use your PS4 controller without any issues.
The PS5 controller (DualSense) is backwards compatible with PS4 games played on a PS5 console. You cannot use a PS5 controller with a PS4 console.
PS5 Games
The PS4 controller is not compatible with PS5 games. To play PS5 games, or the PS5 version of the game, you must use the PS5’s DualSense controller. This is because PS5 games are designed to take advantage of the advanced features of the DualSense, such as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, which are not present on the PS4 controller. Sony has put this restriction on the console and the games itself. We are not able to modify a PS4 controller to get around this restriction.
How to Use a PS4 Controller on a PS5
Connect the Controller: You can connect your PS4 controller to the PS5 either wirelessly via Bluetooth or by using a USB cable.
Install the PS4 Version of the Game: If the game you want to play has both PS4 and PS5 versions, make sure to install the PS4 version on your PS5. This allows you to use the PS4 controller.
Select the Game Version: On your PS5, ensure you’ve selected the PS4 version of the game before launching it. You can check the version in the game’s options or on the main screen of your PS5.
